In the wake of the Alberta Teachers strike, as a striking teacher myself, I simply want to offer teachers to reconnect with themselves in a meaningful way. It's a way I can give to those that give so freely of themselves every day. I am aware that this will have an effect that goes well beyond the strike.
The bottom line is this:
Classrooms and students are only as well as their teachers are.
I see and hear your very real struggles:
- students climbing over one another to get to their seats (overcrowding)
- a teacher in tears because of photocopy numbers dwindling in September (budget cuts)
- a teacher begging for help in a classroom brimming with complex needs, second language learners, and the need for even more guardian contact (draining!)
These are things I can't directly help with as a 1/2 time teacher counsellor working between two schools myself. BUT - I can create resources that can help you reconnect with yourself and ensure you don't lose YOU in the process of giving so much to your students.
